Using the Data Entry Grid screen
Previous Topic  Next Topic

When you first go into the Data Entry module you will see a big list of all the resources in the database so for.  This "display grid" has some very handy features that make it quick and easy to check and fix data entry inconsistencies.

These include:-

Sorting

When the data is first displayed you should notice four things...

  1. The Title column is bold
  2. The column header has an * next to the word Title
  3. The list in in Title order
  4. As you type letters into the Find box (just above the display grid) the list jumps down to the first  item that has a Title starting with the letters you type

You can change the order the records are displayed simply by clicking on the column header of any column that has an * next to its name.  (The * indicates that an instant sort index exists for this column so it can be clicked to instantly sort!).  The Find box automatically searches the column you select to sort the data on.

Re-arranging Columns

The display grid automatically displays the data in a certain way.  Each time you open the Data entry module it will be exactly the same.  You can change the display width of the columns by moving your mouse over the right hand edge of the column until the cursor changes which means you can then hold down the left mouse button and drag to change the column size.  You can also re-arrange the columns by left clicking on the column header (hold down the left mouse button) and drag the column to the left or right.  You'll notice a dark line appears as you move... this indicates where the column will be placed when you release the left mouse button.

You can't break anything here and the screen will always return to normal if you close Data Entry and re-open it!

Saving / Loading Grid Setups

If you go to a lot of trouble to re-arrange the display grid and you'd like to be able to call it back to tthe groovy state easily, you can click the Grid option on the bar menu and then click Save configuration... give it a name that makes sense and next time you load the Data entry module you can use the Load configuration option to call up your customised screen.
