Installation Instructions for Text Tracker Suite – Standard:
(Data conversion after installation)
(Substitute the correct letter if your CD-ROM drive is not D!)
The Text Tracker Suite has been designed to work comfortably as a fully networked system or as a stand-alone system… with several possible variations in between. You need to decide which setup will suit your school initially. It is easy to change the setup at a later date.
We are happy to get involved in the installation process and can even walk you through it right on your computer (in most cases)… gives us a call for details!
If you have any problems with or concerns about installing the TEXT TRACKER SUITE please contact us:

Decision Time…
Are you going to run the Text Tracker Suite as:-
- A Server Based Application for everyone with local backup as network fail-safe
- Before you can install to the File Server you need your network administrator to setup a TTPLUS folder that gives Text Tracker Staff Read/Write/Change access and everyone else Read Only access (Please make sure permissions are correct!)
- You totally rely on network for normal operation
- More than one person can be adding data or circulating at the one time
- Everyone accesses the same database on the server so information is perfectly up-to-date (This is important if you are using TextTracker Suite to manage class sets that are in high demand!)
- There are some bulk updating and setup functions you can’t use when others are using the database so you need to wait until morning or late afternoon to use them
- You need a 10/100 link to your server for speed to be satisfactory
OR
- A Local Application for staff with Server backup to provide general access
- Immune to un-reliable or slow network
- Only one person can enter data OR circulate resources at one time
- (It is certainly possible to share a local installation with another workstation in the Text Hire if the technology is in place!)
- Totally separate database from those looking up Textbooks so anything can be done to it at any time without having to consider other users (most schools find the TextTracker staff tend to do the last minute checking but it is handy to allow staff to browse a list of the available texts at anytime)
- Server data is only updated when an Alternate Backup is done
- Before you can setup the Alternate Backup destination (TTSAFE) on the File Server you need your network administrator to setup a TTSAFE folder that gives TextTracker Staff Read/Write/Change access and everyone else Read Only access
After deciding which installation best suits your school please go ahead and follow to appropriate instructions listed below…
Server Based Application setup details…
Installing the Software…
- Insert new CD into CD Drive in the Text book computer (if you install the software onto the file server from the Text book computer, the icons and menu items will be setup correctly to run from the server based application. If you install the software at the server then the server will have menus and icons automatically setup and you will need to make new icons on the Text book computer. The icon details are included in these instructions so it’s easy to do no matter what you do)
- To install the program, click on Start / Run / type D:\Setup.exe and click OK
- Make sure the target folder is set correctly (“X:\apps\ttplus” and “\\server\apps\ttplus” and “\\server\apps\library\ttplus” would be quite valid examples of a destination folder…)
- When the installation is complete, you need to register Text Tracker Suite by going to Start / Programs / Text Tracker Suite Register / Register Browse to find Drive D:, highlight it and click OK.
Transferring your Resource data from DOS Text Tracker to Text Tracker Suite…
- Go into your DOS Text Tracker program and do a Backup (Utilities / Backup Text Tracker) of all modules. Go into Start / Programs / Text Tracker Suite / Update Text Tracker Suite and follow the prompts to transfer the latest data from your DOS Text Tracker program. If you want loan history to be inloaded please tick the box at the top of the update screen and then click on the “Update TT Plus” button. You will be told that all existing records will be deleted in the update. You will then be asked if you are sure you want to update. If this is the first time that TT Plus is being updated there is no problem but you should never update unless told to by LibCode after the initial installation. Locate your old DOS Text Tracker program on the C:\ (Usually in C:\TEXT\BK) and click OK. You will be given tallies once the update is complete. These should match your old program.
- Go into the new Text Tracker Suite and then Utilities / Backup/restore / Backup and then go and test the Data Entry module… check that a few recently added resources are actually in the system, do the same for Circulation.
- If all is OK, Delete the Update Text Tracker Suite option from the Text Tracker Suite menu… click START / Programs / Text Tracker Suite / Right click on Update Text Tracker Suite and click Delete…
- Go into Utilities and you will now see stats next to the headings on the Utilities Screen. Please make sure these are “about right” for your collection… (call us if there is any doubt!)
- Now click on the Reindex option and then go ahead and Reindex All Files… when the Reindex is complete, go into Enquiry and check the data to make sure it appears OK. To do this, Load the new Text Tracker Suite icon / go into Enquiry / Try a few Title searches etc.
Setting up a local network fail-safe copy of Text Tracker Suite…
- After the Server copy is fully operational, you need to use Windows Explorer to make a copy of the TTPLUS folder from the Server onto a chosen local hard drive (usually the Circulation computer) and rename it to TTSAFE… This C:\TTSAFE folder should be made the destination of the Alternate Backup option in Text Tracker Suite under Utilities / Backup/Restore / Alternate Backup. This is all you need to do to setup the fail-safe, please remember to keep it up-to-date via Alternate Backup function
